Funding & feesPaying for therapy, made genuinely simple
There are usually more ways to fund speech pathology than families expect. Here's a plain-language guide to each pathway — and we're always happy to help you work out which one fits.
NDIS
Speech pathology is a core therapy under the NDIS, funded from the Capacity Building — Improved Daily Living budget. As a registered NDIS provider, Lumina can support every plan type:
- Self-managed — you pay our invoice and claim it back through the myplace portal.
- Plan-managed — your plan manager pays us directly; nothing for you to handle.
- Agency-managed (NDIA-managed) — we claim directly from the NDIA at the current price guide rates.
For children under nine, support is accessed through the NDIS early childhood approach, and we can help you prepare for planning meetings with clear, fundable goals.
Medicare
If your child has an ongoing condition, your GP may prepare a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan. This can provide a Medicare rebate for up to five allied health sessions in a calendar year, shared across all allied health providers your child sees. You'll pay our session fee and claim the rebate back from Medicare — we can process this on the spot where possible.
Private health funds
If you hold extras cover that includes speech pathology, you may be able to claim a portion of each session. Rebates vary between funds and policies, so we recommend checking your annual limit directly with your insurer. We provide itemised invoices with the right item numbers for easy claiming.
Paying privately
You can see us privately at any time, with no referral and no waiting list. Our fees follow the Speech Pathology Australia recommended schedule, and we'll always be upfront about costs before we begin — including travel for in-home and centre-based visits.
