Paediatric speech pathology

Paediatric speech pathology across Melbourne's South-East

Warm, neuro-affirming speech pathology for babies, toddlers and school-aged children — delivered where your child lives, plays and learns.

Lumina Therapy & Co. is a neuro-affirming, mobile paediatric speech pathology practice. We come to your child — at home, at kinder, at childcare and at school across Melbourne's South-East — and support every part of how they communicate, connect and learn.

What paediatric speech pathology covers

Speech pathologists do far more than help children say their sounds clearly. We support the whole span of communication and early feeding, including how children understand language, put words together, tell stories, make friends, read, write and eat. Because these skills are woven together and develop rapidly in the early years, getting the right support early makes a real, lasting difference.

The areas we help with

Every child is different, so we tailor support to your child's strengths and goals. Explore the areas we work in:

How we work

We use warm, play-based, evidence-based therapy delivered in the everyday places your child already lives and learns. Rather than asking families to fit into a clinic timetable, we bring support into real routines — mealtimes, play, story time, the classroom — so progress carries over to daily life. We coach the adults around your child too, because the people they spend the most time with are their most powerful communication partners.

Neuro-affirming, from the first session

We honour how your child naturally communicates rather than trying to make them appear “typical.” We follow their lead, build on their strengths, and value every form of communication — spoken words, gestures, sign and AAC alike. Our goal is a confident, connected child who is understood on their own terms.

You don't need a referral to get started privately. We welcome families and professional referrals, and we work with NDIS, Medicare and private funding — see our funding & fees page, or refer a child in a couple of minutes.

Common questions

When should my child see a speech pathologist?

There's no need to “wait and see.” If you have a niggle about your child's talking, understanding, social communication, reading or eating — or someone has raised a concern — an early check-in is low-pressure and, if all is well, wonderfully reassuring. Early support is gentle and effective.

Do I need a referral or a diagnosis?

No. You can see us privately without a referral or a diagnosis. A GP referral is only needed if you want to access Medicare rebates through a Chronic Disease Management plan.

Where do sessions take place?

We come to you — at home, at childcare or kinder, and at school across Melbourne's South-East — and we also offer telehealth Victoria-wide. Therapy works best in the everyday settings where your child communicates.

What funding can I use?

We support NDIS (self, plan and agency-managed), Medicare (via a GP care plan) and private funding. We're happy to talk through what your family may be eligible for.
